Start of Sacred Months - 1 Rajab
1 Rajab & the Sacred Months
Rajab is the seventh Hijri month and one of the four sacred months (al-ashhur al-hurum) named in the Qur’an (Surah at-Tawbah 9:36) and Sahih al-Bukhari (3197): Dhul-Qaʿdah, Dhul-Hijjah, Muharram, and standalone Rajab. Across Muslim communities — especially in Turkish and Balkan tradition as 'Üç Aylar' — the arrival of 1 Rajab opens a three-month spiritual runway through Rajab and Shaʿban into Ramadan.
Sound worship without weak narrations
Scholars note that no authentic hadith singles out the entire month of Rajab for a special obligatory fast, yet general Sunnah acts — fasting Mondays and Thursdays, the three white days (13th–15th of the lunar month), sincere repentance, and regular Qur’an reading — make Rajab a steady season of preparation before Ramadan.
